The brief for Diesel-Electric’s new premises was to create a functional, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, cost effective structure that would still allow for future expansion. The layout included 1000m² of clean, dust free warehousing, a healthy and comfortable working environment for the warehousing staff, and 400m² of attractive, double storey offices including a sales area and counter which provides a retail service to customers in related industries. The working environment for the warehouse staff revolved around natural light, and ventilation was provided through use of vertical polycarbonate sheeting and a high-level ridge ventilator comprising of continuous horizontal louvers and polycarbonate sheeting. Epoxy coating to the warehouse floor provided the clean, dust free space the client desired. The design and orientation of the warehouse catered for ease of future expansion, while still capitalizing on the site’s premium exposure along the N2 highway.
